Article 39 – Recovery from Trauma and Reintegration – has not been covered so far in this series. Conversations about the support needed to recover from the trauma of neglect, abuse, exploitation or torture have to be covered with the utmost sensitivity in class.
Despite being a difficult article to cover, we would urge you to incorporate the activities in this pack, where you can and in a way that is appropriate to the context of your learners. As duty bearers, adults have an obligation to let children and young people know about the Convention (Article 42) and that includes the harder, more emotionally difficult articles.
We strongly recommend covering these activities in class under the supervision of a teacher and not setting this pack, or activities in this pack, as homework. We would also recommend considering the situations your learners may bring with them into this discussion and have support and safeguarding in place.
