Today marked the end of our first Cornerstones topic – Dinosaur Planet. We had lots of fun recapping what we have learnt this half term. We then read our favourite dinosaur story, danced to dinosaur music, played games and ate dinosaur poo! We have really enjoyed our first topic and are looking forward to the next one.

UNCRC Article 14: All children has the right to think and believe what they want and to practise their religion.

Today, we joined as a whole school to take part in our Harvest Festival – it was strange not being at the church joined by all of our family and friends, however we have recorded a video for you all to watch from the comfort of your own homes.
Thank you for all of the amazing donations for our Harvest Collection – Durham Foodbank will be collecting next Tuesday 🙂

UNCRC Article 12: Right to have a say in all things that affect them (forest schools campaign)
Today we went up to our forest schools site to find that it was very unsafe. With lots of rubbish that had been flytipped and grown up tools scattered we had to come back down to school. When we got back one of the children suggested it would be a great idea to draw pictures to tell people to stop making it all messy. We also contacted the local parish council to see if they could help us too and we have asked our parents that if they’re out dog walking they could help us litter pick too 🙂
Mission clean up our forest is in full swing and after having replies from our parish council we are feeling a lot more hopeful that it might not happen again 🙂

UNCRC Article 29: Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
After working hard with Liz Million we decided there was only one place for the wonderful artwork linking to our topics and that was in a frame!
It’s fair to say we have some very talented children when it comes to Art 🙂

UNCRC Article 12: Every child has a right to have a say in matters that affect them.
As you will know out Rights Respecting Champions thought it would be a great idea to get the children all on board with fundraising for the KS2 reading resources this Autumn term and to do this they thought a Sponsored read for all of the children to join in with would be amazing!
As Duty Bearers the staff set aside a week where the whole school could make a pledge for their read and try to raise as much money as possible. We got one of our favourite Authors on board too; Adam Bushnell, who kindly offered to sign bookmarks for all children who raised over £5 and give top prizes to the 3 children who raised the most.
It is fair to say that the teachers, champions and whole school were astounded when the sponsorships were handed in and money counted. Every child who took part exceeded all of our expectations and the total raised was UNBELIEVABLE – many children raised over £100 for completely their pledge!
As a school, we altogether raised; £2043 which is something that we are so proud of so THANK you so much for supporting us – we are getting to work ordering all of the books as we speak 🙂
