Class 1 Activities 2026 – 2027

Week 5 highlights…

UNCRC Article 1: Every child has all the rights in the UNCRC until they are 18 years old.

This week, we have been learning about the UNCRC Articles and thinking about the rights that are important to us as we create our very own Class Charter. The children have shared some fantastic ideas about how we can make our classroom a happy, safe and welcoming place for everyone. 💛

We have also been developing our funky finger skills using playdough, building those important muscles in our hands ready for writing. ✋ We have been working hard in phonics, practising our sounds and early reading skills, and in maths we have enjoyed making sets of different numbers up to 5, carefully counting objects and matching them to the correct number. 🔢

We are so proud of how enthusiastic and busy our little learners have been this week! ⭐

Week 4 highlights…

UNCRC Article 24: Every child has the right to the best possible health.

✏️ In Literacy, we have been focusing on our names, identifying the letters within them and having a go at forming and writing some of these letters.

🔵 In Maths, we have been busy sorting and grouping objects in different ways, looking carefully at their shape, size and colour. We have encouraged the children to talk about how they have sorted their objects and explain what they notice.

☕💚 We also loved welcoming our friends and families to our Macmillan Coffee Morning! It was so lovely to spend time together, enjoy some treats and support such a wonderful cause. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and supported the event. We really enjoyed sharing this special morning with you!

We are so proud of how confidently the children are settling in, developing their independence and building lovely friendships. Well done, everyone! ⭐

Week 3 highlights…

UNCRC Article 28: Every Child has the right to an education.

The children have been very busy learning through play and exploring lots of new activities. This week, we have been recognising the letters in our names and having a go at matching them. We have also been developing our maths skills by counting out different quantities carefully.

We were very excited to begin our daily phonics lessons, where the children have already shown lots of enthusiasm for listening, joining in and learning together. 🔤

One of our favourite activities this week was setting our own personal targets. The children thought about something they would like to learn or get better at and we loved hearing all of their fantastic ideas! 🎯

We are so proud of how well everyone is settling in and can’t wait for another exciting week of learning together.

Week 2 highlights…

UNCRC Article 31: Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

What a fantastic first full week we have had in school!

The children have settled in brilliantly and have already begun to build some wonderful friendships and connections with both their classmates and the staff. It has been lovely to see their confidence growing each day as they become more familiar with their new environment.

This week, we have started exploring our new topic, “Marvellous Me”. The children have enjoyed learning more about themselves and each other, while developing their language and vocabulary through a range of engaging activities.

They have also been busy exploring our indoor and outdoor learning areas, discovering new resources and opportunities for play and learning.

We are so proud of how well the children have settled and look forward to another wonderful week of learning and fun ahead this week!

Week 1 highlights…

UNCRC Article 24: Every child has the right to the best possible health.

Just a quick message to end our first week in school. The children have settled in extremely well and it is great to see so many new friendships blossom Here are some of our highlights this week.

Welcome to Class 1…

UNCRC Article 28: Every Child has the right to an education.

Welcome to the start of a very exciting journey in Reception! I am absolutely delighted to have your little one join us and want to thank you for your trust and support as we begin this important new chapter together.

Today marks the beginning of many new friendships, discoveries and joyful learning experiences. I understand this first day may be filled with a mix of emotions for both you and your child, and please rest assured that we are here to support every step of the way.

My focus this week will be on helping the children settle in, feel safe, and become familiar with their new environment. There will be plenty of time for play, exploration, and getting to know each other.

All of the children have had a wonderful first day at school, I am very proud of them!

Our first topic this year is; “Marvellous Me”! This exciting topic is all about helping children learn more about themselves and each other as they settle into Reception.

Throughout this half term, we will be exploring:
* Who we are – our names, families, likes and dislikes
* Our bodies – naming body parts and learning about our five senses
* Our feelings – recognising and talking about emotions
* Friendships – learning how to play, share and take turns
* Our homes and communities – what makes us unique and where we belong.

We will share stories, songs, art, and activities that help build confidence, support personal and social development, and celebrate what makes each of us special.
