Raising awareness of Recycling
In our Geography session today, we created some fabulous informative posters to signal the benefits of recycling to encourage our friends and family to be more climate friendly!

Creating Art using Fairtrade products
Continuing on with our learning of Fairtrade Fortnight, we created some beautiful poppy artwork to fit with our Cornerstones topic of Fallen Fields, using Fairtrade coffee!

World Mental Health Day
To celebrate world Mental Health Day, we came to school wearing things that make us feel happy! We talked a lot about our feelings during assembly, took part in a whole school meditation and then created some helpful worry-busting informative posters in our PSHCE session.

More Netball with Darren
In PE, we’ve been making such good progress that Darren has been allowing us to take part in mini matches of netball! Everyone is showing fabulous determination and confidence in this new sport – one which we have all grown to love.

Gymnastics Trip
Today, we were lucky enough to take part in a Gymnastics Festival at Sherburn Gymnastics Centre. We loved honing our gymnastic skills and showed great determination and resilience.

We’ve been loving working with Darren over the past couple of weeks to hone our newfound netball skills.

Macmillan Coffee Morning
Today, we welcomed our parents and carers into school to attend our first ever Macmillan Coffee Morning. Staff and governors made kind donations of cakes and biscuits to sell at the event and we all had so much fun showing off our hard work for Fairtrade Fortnight.

Height Check in Science
Continuing on with our Science topic of Animals Including Humans, we’ve been looking at how the human body grows and develops over time. We thought it would be great to check our height at the start of the year and compare it with the end! Let’s see how much our height progresses as we grow…

Jeans for Genes Day
In school, we celebrated Jeans for Genes Day by coming to school wearing denim! We raised lots of money for this amazing charity and loved learning all about the good things that they do.

Live Performance from Mr Stokoe
To introduce our Year 4s to the wonderful world of violin lessons, Mr Stokoe popped into our class today to give us both a presentation and a performance! It was fantastic to hear this live music from various famous film soundtracks.

Physical timeline of WWI
Today in History, we began to look at the timeline of events within the First World War as part of our new topic! We discussed the significance of each event and what prior knowledge we had before creating our own timelines in our books.

French High Street
En lundi, we began to learn the names of places within the French High Street. We loved pronouncing these new terms and showcased our amazing French accents!

Speaking and Listening
In our Literacy session today, we talked about our new Cornerstones topic and asked questions about WWI. We discussed what we would like to know more about and created a post-it wall of questions for us to work through this term.

Cornerstones Engagement
We introduced our new Cornerstones topic of ‘Fallen Fields’ this morning by looking at propaganda posters from WWI and creating our own! We loved creating our own versions of the posters we saw and are looking forward to learning lots of facts about WWI.

Working on our Charter
Today, we began to look at creating our class charter using the UNCRC Articles that we believe suit our values and visions best. We worked in our pairs to come up with ideas for statements to add to our charter before compiling UNCRC Articles together as class.

Welcome to Autumn 1
Welcome back to school everyone and to Autumn 1! I hope you have enjoyed your break and are looking forward to the new half term.
In Class 4, we are looking forward to having lots of fun learning new things and getting to know our new topics. This half term our new Cornerstones topic is ‘Fallen Fields’, where the children will be learning all about World War One and its impact on our country. Please keep an eye on our section of the school website to find out about all the exciting things we are doing in class.
Just a few notes for your diary:
Homework is given out on Mondays and is expected back in school on Fridays. Children’s homework can also be uploaded to DB. Spellings are given out on Wednesdays for our spelling tests on Mondays.
Swimming will begin again this half term for Class 4 on Thursday mornings! Please ensure that your child comes to school on a Thursday morning with appropriate kit. Swimming sessions will not begin until next week, Thursday 11th September.
Forest School will continue to happen this year for Key Stage 2 children. Please keep an eye out for further information being sent home regarding outdoor wear and dates.
Finally, PE kits! Please send in a PE kit on a Monday and leave it at school throughout the week. We will return this home on a Friday. Our PE days change each half term depending on available coaches in school.
