Ukulele and Violin concert

April 8, 2025 by ameliagrimes

UNCRC Article 29 – Develop our talents

Class 3 and 4 have been working so hard over the past few months to learn how to play the ukulele. They have learnt so many new chords and songs and have been building their confidence every week. Today we performed to the rest of the school, playing and singing all of the songs we have learnt so far. They played so well and should be very proud of themselves! The year 4’s and 5’s have also been continuing to learn more songs on the violin and performed solos to everyone! They played amazingly and it is lovely to see the progress they have made.

February 6, 2025 by ameliagrimes

UNCRC Article 29 – Goals for education.

Today class 3 had a lovely visit from Lewis and Abi, who are both civil engineers. They talked about what an engineer was and how there are lots of different roles. They answered all of the children’s questions by telling them what they like about the job and showing examples of their work. The children then had the chance to take on the role by measuring different parts of the classroom, using the equipment and work out area and perimeter, which they absolutely loved!

Maths Day 2024

November 11, 2024 by ameliagrimes

UNCRC Article 29 – Goals of Education

The children had a fantastic afternoon, celebrating Maths Day. Each class enjoyed two sessions, led by different teachers, taking part in a range of maths activities. A huge well done to all of the Maths Ambassadors who were a huge help in each class!

Class 1

Class 1 impressed Mrs Aspinall with their counting skills. They recognised numbers up to 10 and then practised their number formation1 Well done Class 1. And a massive thanks to the fantastic maths ambassadors for all of their help.

Class 1 enjoyed learning all about number and counting to 3 with Miss Grimes. The children were challenged to find objects around the classroom and then count them together. They then enjoyed completing some challenging maths questions with Chloe and Zander and were amazing at counting! Well done Class 1.

Class 2

Class 2 had a super exciting session with Mrs Morton where we practised our big body maths skills and got active with maths. She was very pleased to see how much our maths skills have progressed since being in Class 1! We then worked with the Maths Maths Ambassadors to solve conceptual word problems linking to number bonds – You have blown me away Class 2 🙂

Class 2 worked hard with Mrs Edwards to look at different ways of adding numbers! We first used our fingers to count to 10, 20 and beyond! Then, working with the Maths Ambassadors, the children began to add numbers together using number lines – starting from various points! Well done, Class 2!

Class 3

Class 3 worked wonderfully well with Mr. Graham to solve calculations using at least 2 different written methods. They then applied their skills to solve conceptual problems and explained their working out to their friends and class. A big thankyou to the Maths Ambassadors who worked very well as additional teachers – definitely potential careers in education.

Class 3 worked incredibly hard to explore ways of multiplying and dividing with Mrs Edwards and the Maths Ambassadors. We rehearsed the times tables we know before introducing the 3 times table into our calculations! Then, we discovered how many number sentences we could produce from one simple multiplication. To finish off, we had a scavenger hunt in the classroom to find physical representations of our calculations. Well done, Class 3!

Class 4

Class 4 worked super hard with Mrs Aspinall to show off their multiplication and division skills. They used their knowledge to solve mathematical problems. We finished off with a game of quick fire times tables work. Again a massive thanks to our maths ambassadors!

Class 4 worked fabulously well with Mr. Graham to enhance their multiplication and division skills using at least 2 different written methods to solve calculations. They then applied their skills to solve 3 conceptual problems and explained their reasoning skills to their groups. Well done to the Maths Ambassadors who shone through with their explanations and teaching skills.

Class 5

Class 5 worked with Miss Grimes to test their quick maths. They had lots of fun playing a game of countdown, with the help of Dallas and Karen. After choosing their team names, it was a competition to see which team could use all 4 operations to reach the number shown on the board. Miss Grimes was so impressed by their mental maths skills!

Class 5 took on a COJO mission with Mrs Morton right the way across the Saharan Sands. They had to practise communication, teamwork and show incredible determination to get across the self built obstacle course and solve the conceptual problems. It was wonderful to see the variance in their methods and the beaming smiles on their faces! Well done Class 5 🙂

Nettlesworth’s General Election

July 3, 2024 by ameliagrimes

UNCRC Article 12 – Every child has the right to have a say and have their views taken seriously.

We have been learning all about the upcoming general election, in both assemblies and in class. We discussed what a general election was and why it is important. We decided to have our very own election, in our coloured teams. Each team has proposed an idea for a treat on Monday. The team captains worked hard to create posters and stood in front of everyone in assembly to propose their team’s ideas. We had some amazing speeches that were very persuasive. On Thursday, each child will vote for the team they would like to win and the winning team will choose our treat! We are looking forward to seeing who the winning team are.

Our winners of the election are…. Red Team!!! Red teams choice of treat was a movie afternoon, which we will all enjoy on Monday!
