Class 4 Misty Mountain Sierra topic launch!
Misty Mountain Sierra – memorable experience
UNCRC Article 29 – Education should develop each child’s personality and talents to the full.
Class 4 went on an amazing virtual tour of the Misty Mountains of the World, including the Dragon Mountains in South Africa. We used the web to research satellite and webcam images of mountains and panoramas and discussed how the air would change.
In geography, we used atlases to plot the locations of famous mountains on a World map.
In art we created amazing mountain design plans ready to create our very own 3D clay sculptures!
Class 3 Memorable Experience-Castle Day
Class 3 have had an amazing day celebrating our new Cornerstones topic with all thing Castles!
They build their very own castles, made lots of amazing decorations and took their places at the Medieval Banquet. They all looked absolutely amazing! Here are some pictures of what we got up to…
Class 2 Beamish Museum Memorable Experience
Today we went to beamish museum as part of our new cornerstones topic Memory Box. We had lots of fun looking and playing with toys from the past, riding on the tram, looking around the old shops and banks as well as looking in old houses. We can’t wait to incorporate all we have experienced into all of our learning back in class.
UNCRC Article 29 – develop children’s talents
STEM day
UNCRC 29 – education should develop each child’s talents.
Today in school we had a whole school STEM day as part of our involvement with Bring It On Net Zero North East. Each class took part in an activity.
Class 1
Class 1 had sooo much fun thinking about ways that we could create a bridge for a train to cross; using different materials. The language and vocabulary that came from this was amazing and children were using words like “strong”, “sturdy” and “flexible!” Well done Class 1 you love a challenge and as always made it the best of fun 🙂
Class 2
We had lots of fun taking part in the egg drop science experiment. We worked in pairs to wrap up an egg with different materials. The aim of the experiment was to protect our egg from cracking when it was dropped from a height. We had lots of fun!
Class 3
Class 3 were given a challenging teambuilding task, to build a tower out of paper. They worked so hard as a team and made some amazing towers that stood up and held different objects. They had so much fun finding a way of building their tower and working out how to put it together.
Class 4
Class 4 worked with Mrs Hill to design new technology for the school that could save energy! Well done to Dylan who impressed everyone with his engineering skills and designed something that all the teachers said they would buy, if it was created!

Footballer Freddie
Well done to Freddie for winning an award at his football club. It is lovely to see you being recognised for all of your hard work.
UNCRC 31 – right to join in a wide range of activities.
Open the book assembly
A huge thank you to Reverend Caroline and her friend for coming into school today to deliver a lovely open the book assembly. The children enjoyed listening to the story of Adam and Eve trying the forbidden fruit from the apple tree in the garden of Eden. We discussed how important it is to look after our world.

Parents and Carers Additional Measures Letter
Parents and Carers Additional Measures Letter – 3-11-21
Dear Parents and Carers
Information regarding additional measures in school
There has been a large increase in the number of children and young people in County Durham testing positive for COVID-19 and the highest case rates are in school age children. This is leading to spread of COVID-19 within families and into older age groups.
We know that the vaccine is helping to prevent serious illness and deaths. However, the vaccine does not always stop people from becoming infected or spreading COVID-19 and we know that those with underlying conditions are more vulnerable.
The increase in COVID-19 cases in children is disrupting their education, affecting schools and has an impact on the wider community. Our priority remains, to maximise the number of children and young people in face-to-face education and minimise any disruption. However, we don’t think this can be achieved without considering additional measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading.
We have made recommendations for schools to consider. As a result, your school may contact you to advise on some changes in your school. These changes may include:
- The use of face coverings in classrooms and communal areas for secondary age pupils
- The use of face coverings in communal areas for all adults
- Staggering start and finish times
- Reducing mixing of pupils in school by grouping pupils by class or year group
- To cancel or postpone educational visits and residential trips
- Open days or events to move to a virtual format
- To cancel or postpone whole school events e.g., assemblies
These recommendations build on the ongoing work by schools to ensure good ventilation, cleaning, and respiratory and hand hygiene. They will be reviewed as infection levels change.
In addition, we are also asking you to support your school with increased testing when there is a positive COVID-19 case in your household:
- PCR testing for all adults and pupils if they are a close contact of a positive case in your household*.
- Daily LFT testing at home for 7 days for any adult, secondary age pupil or primary key stage 2 pupil who is a household contact of a positive case and is exempt from isolation and continues to attend school. The testing of primary age pupils is at parental discretion. Testing should start from the day the household member has symptoms or if they don’t have symptoms from when they tested positive*.
*Note: People who have tested positive with a PCR test within the last 90 days should not be encouraged to test unless they develop new symptoms
Please also carefully consider the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccination programme for children aged 12-15 years.
Ordering or collecting LFD home testing kits
We would recommend you have a supply of LFD testing kits at home in the event you need to use them. You can order home testing kits to be delivered to your home here www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests
Or you can collect LFD testing kits at Community Collect sites across the County. To find your nearest collection point please enter your post code here maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk
If you pick up tests from a pharmacy, you may be asked for a ‘collect code’ this helps the NHS match your details to the tests. To get a ‘collect code’ please visit test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/collect-lateral-flow-kits
Please register the result of your home test at www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result
What to do if you develop symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) or test positive for COVID-19
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of:
- new continuous cough and/or
- high temperature and/or
- a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
If you or a member of your household develops symptoms, you should get a PCR test and remain at home at least until the result is known. Book a free PCR test at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test If positive, you should isolate until at least 10 days after their symptoms appeared.
If you are concerned about your symptoms, you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.
If you have a positive test result but do not have symptoms you should stay at home and self-isolate for 10 days from the date the positive test was taken. This isolation period will be extended if you go on to develop symptoms by counting 10 full days from the day following their symptom onset.
Help, support, and further information.
To help you comply with the requirement to self-isolate, the County Durham Together Community Hub can provide access to essential supplies, financial support and emotional support as well as other services. Please visit www.durham.gov.uk/covid19help or call the Community Hub on 03000 260260 for further details.
There is also support available the coronavirus section via durhamlocate.org.uk
Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
Thank you again for everything you are doing to support you child and your school and in helping to keep your family and community safe.
Yours sincerely

TT Rockstars – England Rocks – 8th to 11th November 2021
TT Rockstars – England Rocks – 8th to 11th November 2021
UNCRC Article 28 (goals of education)
Our children continue to work hard on the development of their Multiplication Tables – these are essential skills to enhance the children’s mental mathematics and number property knowledge and understanding. The children from each class are actively involved in multiplication exercises through our TT Rockstars and Numbots initiative in school and using their electronic devices at home.
May I first say a huge thank you for all your commitment in helping your child complete their TT Rockstars and Numbots at home – long may this continue.
For Maths’ Week England (8th – 12th November 2021), we want to make maths exciting and high profile in our school. We will be taking part in a friendly competition involving schools from England from Monday 8th November to Thursday 11th November. It’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.
For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.
All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count but only from games played between 7:30AM GMT and 7:30PM GMT on Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th. To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60 minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60 minutes between 7.30am and 7.30pm. Once the player goes beyond 60 minutes of play on a given day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.
In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans. We suggest a limit of half an hour a day outside school hours – some will play more, some will play less.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any queries.
Once again, thank you for your continuous support.
