In class 3 we all had a heroes and villains party to celebrate the retirement of Mrs Shaw and the end of our Cornerstones topic. We played games, had a costume parade, a heroes versus villains quiz and ate delicious party food that Mrs Shaw treated us to.
Afternoon Tea Party
Today we celebrated the end of our Cornerstones topic by holding an Afternoon Tea Party for the Queen. We even had a lovely visitor. Look at how lovely we all looked in our fancy clothes!
Thank you very much to Sarah in the kitchen for helping us prepare our food!
Head Teacher Award – 9.7.21
Class 4’s Leaver’s Performance – 9.7.21
Wow! What can we say?
We were all given an absolute treat today when the children of Class 4 performed their Leaver’s Production of ‘Wow! What a Year.’
The children were able to act, sing and perform to the highest qualities to their parents, who were delighted to watch on the outdoor stage (playground)!
We are all incredibly proud of the efforts of all the children in Class 4; you learned all your lines, songs, sourced your own costumes and made props…well done to everyone involved.
Class 4 – Wow! What a Year.
Artists of the month!
Our school artist of the month is the talented Amelia Lee in Class 3. Amelia created an amazing Cruella De Vil clay sculpture, it had so much detail. Well done Amelia.
We are also celebrating the work of Andy Goldsworthy.
Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, renowned in his field, that creates temporary landscape art installations out of sticks and stones, and anything and everything else that he finds outside. The son of a mathematician, Goldsworthy grew up working on farms before eventually getting his BA from what is now the University of Central Lancashire.
Parent Questionnaire Results
Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you so much for responding to our parental survey. We are again overwhelmed by your responses and the positive feedback we have received. The additional comments are extremely appreciated and we are so grateful to have such supportive parents/carers.
Many parents are still concerned about home learning when a child has to isolate. Parents/Carers are doing an amazing job. Please don’t worry, we continue to be here for you if you need any support. Class Teachers will continue to ring or email to keep in contact. Please see below information regarding remote learning:
Home learning support – information for parents & carers
When will my child need to learn from home?
- If your child has to self-isolate because of coronavirus – either individually or as part of their class
- If there’s a local lockdown and the school is advised to partially close or your child has to shield
What is my child expected to do?
We’re determined to make every effort to keep our pupils on-track and make sure no one falls behind if they need to learn from home because of coronavirus.
We want to make sure your child can learn as much as possible at home. The following guidelines will explain what we’d like your child to do while learning remotely, and how we plan to support you and them.
When providing remote learning, teachers must be available between 9am-3pm on their working days
If they’re unable to work for any reason during this time, for example due to sickness or caring for a dependent, they should report this using the normal absence procedure.
When providing remote learning, teachers are responsible for:
Setting work –
- Teachers will provide learning for their current class. The amount of work they need to provide is daily Maths and English lessons plus 3/4 lessons for foundation subjects each week. Daily phonics lessons will be planned for KS1 and SPAG lessons for KS2.
- Teachers will use resources provide by the Oak National Academy, White Rose Maths and BBC Bitesize, as well as other resources identified by school curriculum leaders.
- The work will be set weekly.
- Teachers will upload weekly learning packs on the school website. The packs can then be accessed at home, printed by staff who are on site, ready for parents to collect or staff can deliver to homes.
- Teachers will outline the work daily via their class activity page.
- Providing feedback on work –
Pupils can email work to their class teachers. All work submitted will be acknowledged by the class teacher. Feedback will be given for English and Maths on an individual basis. Feedback will be age appropriate.
- Keeping in touch with pupils who aren’t in school and their parents –
- In the case of a national or local lockdown, Teachers will call pupils/parents at least every 3 weeks. Any concerns should be recorded and Head teacher alerted. In the event of a self/class bubble isolation, communication will be via email. If there has been no communication from either a parent or child via by day 3 of lockdown/self-isolation period starting, teacher or SLT member will call parents/pupils on day 4.
- Vulnerable pupils will be called weekly – CP/EHCP/identified pupils, this will be done by SENCO/DSL.
- Emails received from parents and pupils are to be checked between 9am and 3pm, Mon- Fri. Teachers should respond to pupil/parent emails within 48hours.
What support will our school provide?
- Regular contact with teachers through telephone calls/email
- Regular feedback via telephone calls and email so your child knows how they’re doing
- Resources
What can I do to help my child?
Create a positive environment for your child to learn at home, for example:
- Distinguish between weekdays and weekends, to separate school life and home life
- Designate a working space if possible
- At the end of the day, have a clear cut-off to signal school time is over
- Create and stick to a routine
- Put a timetable up on the wall
- Make time for exercise and breaks throughout the day to keep your child active
- Reinforce the importance of children staying safe online.
- Be aware of what your child is being asked to do, including: sites they will be asked to use and school staff your child will interact with
- Emphasise the importance of a safe online environment set age-appropriate parental controls on digital devices and use internet filters to block malicious websites. These are usually free, but often need to be turned on.

Parents – What you need to know
Pupils – What you need to know
We had a concern about parents/carers feeling not informed about child’s progress. We aim to keep parents/carers informed of their child’s progress by termly reports and termly parent meetings. The end of year report is a detailed report showing your child’s end of year progress. In September when parents/carers can come back into school for parent meetings, we hope parents/carers will feel more informed about progress when books/work can be shared in more detail.
Remember, if you have any concerns about helping your child learn, your child’s progress or you need any other support from the school, please let us know by contacting school office via email: nettlesworth@durhamlearning.net or headteacher email d.lee103@nettlesworth.durham.sch.uk
The views and concerns of parents/carers are really important to us and we are always here if anyone needs us. Please do get in touch.
Please see results of the survey below and some of the wonderful comments about our school.
Kind Regards

From 19th July (step 4): no more bubbles
12th July 2021
Dear Parents/Carers,
Please find news on updates regarding Coronavirus,
From 19 July (step 4): no more bubbles
- We’re no longer required to keep pupils in bubbles. This applies to provision over summer (e.g. summer schools) and school in term-time from autumn 2021.
- We can resume assemblies and no longer need to make alternative arrangements to avoid mixing at lunch
From 19 July: NHS Test and Trace takes over contact tracing
- We’ll no longer be expected to carry out contact tracing – close contacts will now be identified via NHS Test and Trace
- From 16 August 2021, children under the age of 18 years old will no longer need to self-isolate if they’re contacted by NHS Test and Trace as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case. Instead, they’ll be contacted by NHS Test and Trace and advised to take a PCR test
- There may still be instances where public health might advise you to temporarily reintroduce some control measures
From 19 July: face coverings no longer advised
- This applies:
- To pupils, staff and visitors either in classrooms or in communal areas
- On dedicated transport to school or college
- Face masks are also no longer legally required on public transport
We have an outbreak management plan on how we’d operate during an outbreak in our school or local area.
Coronavirus Outbreak Management Plan
- Our plan covers the possibility that we may need to temporarily reintroduce control measures like bubbles and face coverings
- We should only:
- Consider measures as a last resort
- Keep them to the minimum number of groups possible
- Keep them for the shortest amount of time possible
- If we have several confirmed cases within 14 days, we may have an outbreak. We will call the dedicated advice service who will escalate the issue to our local health protection team where necessary, and advise if we need to take any additional action, such as implementing elements of our outbreak management plan. We can reach them by calling the DfE helpline on 0800 046 8687 and selecting option 1 for advice on the action to take in response to a positive case.
Kind Regards

TT ROCKSTAR CELEBRATORY DAY – 9.7.21
Class 1’s End of Year Performance – Jack and the Beanstalk
We hope you all enjoyed our End of Year performance outdoors – it was great to see so many parents there after having months of not having any visitors at all, what a special moment in itself. The children were amazing and the costumes were fabulous! I will be uploading a video that will follow – however I deleted the first section of it in true Mrs Morton style so it begins 1/3 of the way through – I do apologise 🙂
Class 1’s BEACH DAY – End of Term Treat
Today we had our end of topic celebration in class 1 – we knew we couldn’t get tot he Beach with all of the current restrictions so we brought the beach to Nettlesworth Primary School. We had our very own pool, fish and chips delivered, music, sand and even the ice cream van made an appearance 🙂
