Class 3’s letter to Mr Kevan Jones

November 8, 2023 by admin

UNCRC Article 12 – All children have the right to have a say in all matters affecting them.

Today class 3 visited our local park, as part of our new cornerstones topic ‘Mighty Metals’. While we were there, we noticed some things we would like to change about the park. Straight away, the children noticed the amount of graffiti on the playground equipment. We also noticed how old the equipment looked and how some of the apparatus wasn’t safe. As a result, we decided we could try to make a change by writing a letter to our local MP, Kevan Jones, to raise our concerns. We thought carefully about what could be changed and we are hoping to hear back soon.

Mr Kevan Jones

October 27, 2023 by admin

Class 2 were very shocked to see that one of the benches in our local area had been broken, so we decided that we would use our pupil voice to try to solve the problem.

We have emailed our local MP, Mr Kevan Jones, who is keen to help us! Watch this space!!

Email by class 2 ….

Dear Mr Jones,
We are Class 2 from Nettlesworth Primary School. We need your help as we have a problem in our park next to our lovely school.
We are a Rights Respecting Gold school and we feel that this problem is harming our UNCRC Rights (UNCRC Article 31)
In the park there is a bench for our adults to sit on that has been damaged. It has been pulled out of the ground and is not safe anymore.
What can we do to fix the bench?
We would like your help!
Thank you and we look forward in receiving a reply.

Park Equipment Voting

October 27, 2023 by admin

Today we had the honour of voting for a new piece of play equipment for our local park. We were asked by Durham County Council to help them decide on how we can update and improve our local area.

We were delighted to be take part in this process as we always ensure that pupil voice is heard in school as well as our local community.

Once again, our children demonstrated Rights Respecting Gold ethos throughout the whole service. Well done everyone.

#HelloYellow supporting Children’s Mental Health 2023

October 16, 2023 by admin

Here at Nettlesworth Primary School, we took part in #HelloYellow for World Mental Health Day 2023, showing our children that how they feel INSIDE matters. Mental health and wellbeing are our number one priorities at Nettlesworth. We know that happy and healthy minds help us to learn and do our best!

We dressed up in our yellow clothes for the day. We also took time out to tell jokes, and we had a challenge of giving at least one person a compliment. In the afternoon, we tried yoga and a range of mindfulness activities in our classrooms too! Together we raised a wonderful ยฃ70 for the charity: Young Minds – THANK YOU ๐Ÿ™‚

Careers Experience – Fire Service Engineer

October 16, 2023 by admin

UNCRC Article 29: Every child has the right to an education that develops their personality, talents and abilities to the full.ย

This afternoon we had a visit from Callum from Chubb Fire. We have some children in Class 1 & 4 with a passion for fire safety and we have been talking about different careers other than a Firefighters; but that still link to fire safety and protection.

Fire safety engineers ensure that buildings are designed to keep people, property and the environment safe from the dangers of fire and Callum brought along some of his extinguishers to show the children; how they work, what the different types are used for, when they should be checked and how they are used.

We even had the opportunity to use the water and foam extinguisher on the field. It was super fun and super powerful – an all around wonderful experience to showcase different careers for our children ๐Ÿ™‚
