The Rights Respecting Champions of Nettlesworth Primary School did us all proud today when they hosted their very own Virtual Assembly to raise the awareness of World Children’s Day.
The each spoke to the rest of the school via TEAMs, addressing the global issues of Climate Change.
Well done to our champions, and to the rest of our school on a fabulous effort around this topical issue.

A massive thank you and well done to all of our children and families! You have helped us raise money for Child In Need, our current total is £68.
We had lots of fun dressing up in rainbow colours and joining in with Joe Wickes’ last 15 minutes of his 24 hour exercise marathon. The children were super stars, as always!
Sarah even made us Pudsey Bear biscuits for lunch.
On the afternoon a special little visitor came along to give a little smile from the doors of each classroom – Baby Bobby Bear! 🐻
Once again, thank you!

Could you help us make Christmas special for those who may have little or nothing under the tree on Christmas morning?
If so, please contact Captain Sarah Johnson on 0191 371 0313

Dear Parents and Carers
As you are aware your child was due to take their year 1 phonics screening check in June 2020. Due to lockdown the government rescheduled this and have now given us a time frame to complete the check. We have until the Christmas break to complete the screening check with your child.
This check will be carried out with Mrs Aspinall and Mrs Lee, your child will be encouraged to read a mixture of 40 real and nonsense words. This is an opportunity for your child to show off their phonics skills and is very low key. The children have practised reading similar words during our phonics sessions so this is nothing the children aren’t familiar with.
Once all children have completed the check we will inform you of their scores.
For more information, please see our website where you will find an informative PowerPoint and revision pack. Please see the links below.
Any questions, please feel free to ask.
Many Thanks
Mrs Aspinall

What a beautiful assembly our children participated in today to mark their respect to all military and civilian sacrifices made during conflicts. Even though we are not able to have collective worship in our school hall, today we held our first virtual assembly in our classrooms, with Mrs. Lee leading the assembly from her office with Mrs. Miller.
All children and staff observed a one minute silence to pay their respects and laid their own poppies that had been painted onto pebbles outside the school grounds.
We will remember them.

Today class 1 and 2 were so lucky to have Rio and Alice from OASES join us in school. They brought the wonder of Hamsterley Forest to us! We had lots of fun exploring our school grounds whilst developing our map reading skills. We also collect lots of natural materials to help us make stick animals and people. They all look so wonderful! We had such fun and cant wait to see them Rio and Alice again!

Dear Parents/Carers,
Mrs Aspinall’s due date is fast approaching and she will begin her maternity leave at the end of this term. Her baby boy is due is in January. She will be hopefully returning two weeks before May Half Term holiday.
I am also happy to inform you that Mrs Marie Plant will be taking her place for the duration of her leave. She already knows the children in Class 2 very well and Mrs Plant has worked with Mrs Aspinall and will continue until her maternity leave.
Mrs Morton will return to school from maternity leave last week of this term and will be back teaching full time in Class 1 again after the Christmas Holidays.
Mrs Aspinall and Mrs Morton have been an inspiration over this difficult time, working with as much energy and enthusiasm for the school as they always do. I am sure parents and carers will join me in wishing Mrs Aspinall the best over the coming months. We would also like to thank Mrs Plant for her hard work and dedication to the children and our school.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you again for your continued support.
