UNCRC Article 3 Best Interests of the Child

February 9, 2023 by admin

Article of the Week
Article 3
Hello,

Article 3 – Best Interests of the Child says that what is in a child’s best interests must be the top priority in all decisions and matters that affect them.

Many adults make decisions that impact on children from family members, carers, teachers and police officers to government ministers and court officials. Download this pack for a range of activities that explore how these decisions are made, what considerations have to be taken into account when deciding what is in a child’s best interests and what role young people’s voices should play in these matters.

We know that, as a school, you will be supporting your pupils to comprehend and reflect upon the tragic events unfolding in Türkiye and Syria. As you explore the extraordinary humanitarian response, you may wish to mention how organisations such as UNICEF always prioritise the best interests of children when responding to emergencies. You can find our more about how UNICEF UK responds to emergencies here and our Syria and Türkiye earthquakes appeal here.

Article 13
Hello,

This week we explore Article 13 – Freedom of Expression. The right to express your thoughts freely is a human right as well as a child’s right.

This means that children can express themselves in the way that is best for them, and make informed decisions in order to access information as long as is within the law and is not harmful to others.

Download this week’s pack in order to find a wealth of activities for primary and secondary learners.
