The children in school were very grateful to the petrol station in Plawsworth, who donated sweets for all of the children. We were very grateful and enjoyed them! Our Rights Respecting Council have written a thank you letter to express our thanks.
Class 3’s letter to Mr Kevan Jones
UNCRC Article 12 – All children have the right to have a say in all matters affecting them.
Today class 3 visited our local park, as part of our new cornerstones topic ‘Mighty Metals’. While we were there, we noticed some things we would like to change about the park. Straight away, the children noticed the amount of graffiti on the playground equipment. We also noticed how old the equipment looked and how some of the apparatus wasn’t safe. As a result, we decided we could try to make a change by writing a letter to our local MP, Kevan Jones, to raise our concerns. We thought carefully about what could be changed and we are hoping to hear back soon.

Artist of the Half Term!
This half term we have been focusing on Andy Warhol and we have had so many amazing pieces of art handed to us. This half term, for her amazing artwork completing at home, our Artist of the Half Term was Karen!
Well done Karen!

Mr Kevan Jones
Class 2 were very shocked to see that one of the benches in our local area had been broken, so we decided that we would use our pupil voice to try to solve the problem.
We have emailed our local MP, Mr Kevan Jones, who is keen to help us! Watch this space!!

Park Equipment Voting
Today we had the honour of voting for a new piece of play equipment for our local park. We were asked by Durham County Council to help them decide on how we can update and improve our local area.
We were delighted to be take part in this process as we always ensure that pupil voice is heard in school as well as our local community.

Harvest Festival – 24.10.23
UNCRC Article 14 – freedom of thought, belief and religion
What a wonderful day our children have had celebrating their Harvest Festival with their family and friends at our local church. Rev. Michael welcomed us all and help us to conduct the service with readings, poems and songs performed by each class. Once again, our children demonstrated Rights Respecting Gold ethos throughout the whole service. Well done everyone.
#HelloYellow supporting Children’s Mental Health 2023
Here at Nettlesworth Primary School, we took part in #HelloYellow for World Mental Health Day 2023, showing our children that how they feel INSIDE matters. Mental health and wellbeing are our number one priorities at Nettlesworth. We know that happy and healthy minds help us to learn and do our best!
We dressed up in our yellow clothes for the day. We also took time out to tell jokes, and we had a challenge of giving at least one person a compliment. In the afternoon, we tried yoga and a range of mindfulness activities in our classrooms too! Together we raised a wonderful ยฃ70 for the charity: Young Minds – THANK YOU ๐
