Class 3 Activities

Welcome to class 3 Activities 2024 – 2025

Reading Treat

Class 3 have been working super hard over the past few weeks to read at home! We had an amazing 100% 2 weeks in a row, which we were super proud of. Class 3 chose to have ice cream for their treat and absolutely loved it!

Topic celebration – Visit from Claire and Jet

This week we had a very special visitor in school, to celebrate our final topic ‘Heroes and Villains’. Claire and Jet came into class 3, to teach us all about personal safety. We had the chance to listen to how we can keep ourselves safe and learn about the job as a police officer. We then had the chance to meet police dog Jet!

Visit from the Fire Brigade

Today we had a visit from Durham fire brigade, to talk to us about their career and how to stay safe around fires. We had the opportunity to ask lots of questions and learnt all about how we could become a firefighter and some of the different roles.

Cricket Festival

UNCRC Article 29 – Develop our talents and abilities.
Today we had so much fun, taking part in the cricket festival. We learnt lots of new skills and took part in a range of games and activities. Class 3 demonstrated amazing behaviour as always!

Sports Day!

The children have had an excellent afternoon taking part in sports day. All of the children demonstrated all of our Sainsbury’s Values and did amazing in their races.

Making sock puppets

For our D.T this week, we made our own sock puppets. We worked hard to design them last week and this week we used lots of different materials to make them into superheroes. We were so pleased with how they turned out.

Topic engagement with Liz Million

UNCRC Article 29 – Develop our talents

To launch our new topic, Heroes and Villains, we had the opportunity to draw with illustrator Liz Million! She introduced us to some famous Heroes and Villains, before showing us some of her amazing artwork. We then each created a drawing of a superhero, following Liz step by step. We were absolutely amazed by the drawings we created and had so much fun!

Welcome to Summer 2!

Welcome back to your last half term in year 3! I hope you have had an excellent half term and are looking forward to the final summer term. We have lots of exciting things to look forward to. Our new topic is ‘Heroes and Villains’, where we will be learning all about real life heroes, as well as superheroes and villains from our favourite books and films. Friday fun on the field!

Today we had a lovely afternoon with class 5, taking part in some activities on the field. We had the choice of building shelters, taking part in an obstacle race or playing board games. We then enjoyed ice lollies and cake! Hope you have a lovely half term!

Topic celebration – Making chocolate lorries

Today we celebrated our current topic ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’, by making our own chocolate lollies. We had lots of fun shaping the melted chocolate and adding our favourite toppings. We were so happy with how they turned out!

Beamish Trip

UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of cultural activities.

Class 3 have had a fantastic day, visiting Beamish Museum. To celebrate our topic, we watched cinder toffee being made in the sweet shop and learnt all about how they used to make sweets! We also tried some which we loved. We took part in the Just One Spark workshop, learning all about how oil lamps were made and watching some explosions. We have had such a lovely day and learnt lots about life in the past!

Computing – Designing a chocolate wrapper

This week we worked hard to design our own chocolate wrapper on the computers. We used the ‘paint’ app, to make it colourful, appealing and add some text. Thank you to the year 5’s, who helped us.

VE Day!

UNCRC Article 38 – All children should be protected from war zones.

This week we have been celebrating VE day, remembering all of the heroes that fought in WW2. We have been doing lots of work in class and assemblies, learning about why it is so important and talking about why we celebrate. We made some commemorative plates to hang on the fence, looked at some artefacts from WW2 and had our very own VE Day street party!

Quidditch

Today we had an excellent morning, learning how to play Quidditch with Caitlin. We learnt all of the rules and played some games, before having a tournament in our teams.

Topic Engagement – Making smoothies

Today we launched our new topic ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious!’ In our literacy lesson, we thought about which fruits we wanted to add and wrote our own recipes for our smoothies. We then made our smoothies by cutting up the fruit we had chosen, adding to the blender and blending it. We poured it into our cup and enjoyed them!

Welcome to Summer 1

I hope you have all had a lovely Easter and are looking forward to your final term of year 3! Our next topic is ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’. We will be learning all about different fruits, vegetables and nice treats, reading some stories about the history of chocolate and reading the famous ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. To launch our topic, we will be making our very own fruit smoothies, thinking about a range of ingredients and to celebrate, we are visiting Beamish Museum, to see some sweets being made! Topic Celebration – Making our own clay volcanoes

During our DT lessons, we have been working hard to make our own Volcanoes out of clay. We made the structures, before painting on the lava. We then made our volcanoes explode, using a chemical reaction. We were so happy with how they turned out!

Easter Crafts

This week we have had lots of fun making our Easter Eggs, in preparation for the Easter Egg Competition. We used a range of materials and thought about our designs. We have also been working hard to make Easter cards for our loved ones.

Ukulele concert!

UNCRC Article 29 – Develop our talents

Class 3 and 4 have been working so hard over the past few months to learn how to play the ukulele. They have learnt so many new chords and songs and have been building their confidence every week. Today we performed to the rest of the school, playing and singing all of the songs we have learnt so far. They played so well and should be very proud of themselves!

History Day

This week we had a History Day in school, dressing up as lots of different time periods. Class 3 dressed up as Romans, to link to the work we had previously done in class. The children made an excellent effort and enjoyed taking part in some Roman activities throughout the day.

Visit from the Mayor

This week we had a very special visitor. We were so lucky to have a visit from the Mayor of Durham and her bodyguards. We thought of some questions to ask while they were here, to find out more about the role of Mayor and we were able to watch a procession through the hall! The children were so interested in what the Mayor said and enjoyed listening to her talk about her experiences.

Junko Tabei Mission

UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of activites.

Today we had so much fun taking part in a mission. We learnt all about Junko Tabei and her amazing achievements, before taking on the mission of rescuing someone from an avalanche. The children had to work hard as a team, demonstrating different skills to work their way across an obstacle course to reach the ‘danger zone’. Each team managed to complete their mission and demonstrated excellent team work and resilience!

Mother’s Day Cards

This week we have made cards for a special lady in our lives. We made 3D darts and decorated them using different colours, before arranging them onto our cards.

Making Earthquake Shelters

During this week’s Forest School session, we had the challenge of making our own Earthquake Shelters. We used the commando Joes equipment, to built strong shelters. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork and managed to build sustainable shelters. We also had lots of fun!

Comic Relief!

UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of activities.

Today we raised money for Comic Relief, by taking part in a range of activities. We worked alongside the sports leaders, to play party games that linked to Red Nose Day! We all looked fab in our party clothes and enjoyed celebrating the 40th Birthday party of Comic Relief!

World Book Day 2025

Today the children have had an excellent day, celebrating World Book Day. The children all looked amazing in their costumes and have had fun reading their favourite books and writing their own book reviews. Miss Trunchbull also brought in some delicious chocolate cake.

Topic engagement – Making volcanoes at Forest School

UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of activities.

Today we had an exciting forest school session, to launch our new topic ‘Tremors’. We worked in groups to build a volcano structure, using natural resources. We thought about the shape and size it needs to be, in order to allow the lava to run down. We then created a chemical reaction using bicarbonate of soda, food colouring and vinegar, to make our volcanoes erupt!

Reading Treat!

Class 3 have made a fantastic effort this half term, to read at home with their adults and fill the reading tree. This week we all read at home and got 100%, which meant we had filled our flowers. We decided to have a movie and popcorn in our pjs for our treat!

Pyjama Day for Children with Cancer UK

UNCRC Article 24 – Right to the best possible health.

Today we all came to school in our pyjamas, to raise money for the charity ‘Children With Cancer UK’. We learnt all about why this charity is so important, for helping children with cancer and learnt a bit about what it is. Thank you to everyone who donated and the children all looked amazing in their pj’s!

Topic Celebration – Greek Day!

This week we celebrated our current topic ‘Gods and Mortals, by having our very own Greek day. The children all made an excellent effort to come to school dressed as Greek Gods, Goddesses and Heroes. We had lots of fun learning how to Greek dance, having a Greek taster session and taking part in some activities linking to Ancient Greece!

Multi-skills at Maiden Castle

UNCRC Article 31 – Right to take part in a range of activities.

Class 3 had a fantastic time at Maiden Castles, taking part in a multi-skills event. The children took part in two activities, learning how to play dodgeball and hand tennis. They practiced lots of different skills, before playing each game in teams. The children’s behaviour was outstanding as always and they had so much fun!

Dance Festival

Today the children took part in the Dance Festival at the Gala Theatre. They have been working so hard over the past few weeks to learn a Bollywood dance with Gemma. The children were absolutely amazing and had such a fun morning performing and watching the other dances. Well done class 3!

Dress to Express Day!

Today we have celebrated Children’s Mental Health Day 2025 by coming in clothes that allow us to express ourselves. We have been talking about our feelings in our PSHCE lesson, and had a lovely afternoon watching Inside Out.

Career Encounter – Civil engineers

UNCRC Article 29 – Goals for education.

Today we had a lovely visit from Lewis and Abi, who are both civil engineers. They talked about what an engineer was and how there are lots of different roles. They answered all of the children’s questions by telling them what they like about the job and showing examples of their work. The children then had the chance to take on the role by measuring different parts of the classroom, using the equipment and work out area and perimeter, which they absolutely loved!

Clay Sculptures

This week in forest school we had lots of fun making Ancient Greek Vases out of clay. We looked closely at some pictures of Greek Artefacts and tried to replicate the detail on the vases we had looked at.

Forest School – building Ancient Greek Temples

For our first Forest School Session, we worked in groups to build our own Ancient Greek Temples. We worked together to plan what we wanted them to look like and choose some natural resources. Once we had built our temples, we shared which materials we used with the other groups.

Topic Engagement with Adam Bushnell

UNCRC Article 32 – Take part in a range of activities.

Today class 3 had an excellent time working with Adam Bushnell, introducing our new topic ‘Gods and Mortals’. We looked at some Ancient Greek armour and clothing before creating our very own heroes and monsters. We used our literacy skills to think of noun phrases to describe our heroes and monsters.

Christmas Party!

The children had a fantastic time at our Christmas Party! They looked fantastic in their party clothes and danced their socks off! We had a very special visit from a very naughty elf which the children absolutely loved! They were very grateful for their present!

Christmas Crafts

This week we have worked hard to make our Christmas cards, calendars and gifts for our families. We have had lots of fun and are very proud of our work!

Christmas Dinner/Jumper Day

The children have had a lovely day and all looked fab in their Christmas outfits. We had a very special visitor this morning who left us all a very special letter! We then enjoyed our delicious Christmas dinner with our friends!

Christingle Service

UNCRC Article 14

Today the children took part in our Christingle Service at the local church. We each made our Christingle before taking part in the service. The children sang beautifully and were amazing throughout the service.

Celebration of Topic – Mighty Metals

This week we have been celebrating our current topic ‘Mighty Metals’. We made our own bracelets, using metal wire and beads. We had to shape the wire to the correct size, before adding the beads of our choice.

Live stream fitness with Leanne!

Today class 3 had so much fun taking part in a live stream fitness session with Leanne Kemp! We joined in with different moves whilst listening to some Christmas music.

Computing skills

We are working hard in our computing lessons and are transferring our skills across to other curriculum areas!

Speaking and Listening

We are impressed all the adults in school with our fantastic Literacy work on robots. We were all confident when reading out out ideas to the class. Future public speakers in class 3!

Forest School

Class 3 are continuing to join in weekly forest school sessions. We are enjoying exploring the outdoors and linking it to our learning across all aspects of the curriculum.

Children In Need Day!

The children had so much fun, helping to raise money for Children In Need! They all looked amazing in their superhero/Pudsey themed outfits. We had our very own gladiator challenges, before taking part in some fun activities in class.

Parliamentary Coffee Morning

Today class 3 enjoyed taking part in our coffee morning. We showcased our work and took part in some activities with our adults. We learnt lots about why Parliament it’s important and voted in different debates.

Poppy Art

Today class 3 completed their poppy art, to be displayed on the fence. After learning all about the importance of Remembrance Day and why it is so important, we each used watercolour to create a poppy. We then wrote a Remembrance Poem in the middle, to show our understanding.

Our Debate – Should children have to earn pocket money by doing chores around the house?

UNCRC Article 12 – All children have a right to have a say in all matters affecting them.

To take part in UK Parliamentary week, today we had our very own class debate. We discussed our topic and the points for and against, before having a vote. Once we had all voted, we debated why we agreed or disagreed and had a whole class debate. We have displayed our work ready for the Parliamentary Coffee Morning.

Football session with Caitlin

UNCRC Article 29 – Develop our talents.

Class 3 had a great time today, learning new football skills with Caitlin. We practiced dribbling, passing and stopping the ball using control.

Topic Engagement – Trip to the park

UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of activities.

Today we launched our new topic ‘Mighty Metals’, by visiting our local park. We focused on spotting things made of metal on our way and then exploring the different types of metals in the park. We worked in groups to investigate how the metal made the equipment work and why other materials might not have been useful. We had so much fun exploring how the different pieces of equipment worked.

Welcome to Autumn 2!

This half term our new Cornerstones Topic is ‘Mighty Metals’. Harvest Festival

Celebration of topic – Predator!

This week we have celebrated our current topic of Predator. We have spent the last few art and DT lessons making our own clay predators and designing our habitats. We then made our habitats using boxes and a range of materials. We were so pleased with the results, they all looked excellent.

World Mental Health Day

Today we celebrated World Mental Health Day by coming to school wearing something yellow and taking part in activities in school. We enjoyed our Tea and Talk with hot chocolate and biscuits, whilst talking about our feelings. We talked about why talking to each other is so important!

Our Clay Predators

This week for our art lesson, we made our own predators out of clay. The children worked hard to create the body, before adding detail using the tools. A huge thank you to the art ambassadors who took their time to come into our lesson and help class 3 improve their sculptures.

Tri Golf

UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of activities.

Today the children had an excellent time, playing tri golf. We learnt lots of new skills and had so much fun. As always, the children had a fantastic attitude to learning and were so respectful to the leaders.

Jeans For Genes Day!

Today we have all made such a lovely effort for Jeans for Genes Day and raise awareness for an amazing cause. We have done some work in assembly and in class to discuss why it’s so important!

Roald Dahl Day

UNCRC Article 31 – Right to take part in a range of activities.

To link closely to our current Literacy topic, today we celebrated Roald Dahl Day in class. We completed some activities such as colouring in the characters, finding words linking to Roald Dahl and watched the BFG together.

Topic engagement – Predator!

UNCRC Article 29 – Develop our talents.

To launch our first Cornerstones topic of the year, Predator, we have been using our amazing artwork to create paintings of predators in their habitats. We began by sketching an image of a predator, before using water colours to add colour and a background. We thought carefully about the habitats these animals live in and the prey they hunt for.

Welcome to class 3!

A very warm welcome to year 3! I hope you are looking forward to your new class and the upcoming year. This year we will be learning lots of new and exciting things, learning new topics and taking part in some new activities throughout the year.
