Dance With Gemma
This morning we had so much fun learning new dance styles with Gemma. We learnt how to jive, cheerlead, samba and line dance. We picked up the dances so quickly and enjoyed learning new styles.

Transition Day
The new class 3 have had a lovely day for class swap day, getting to know their new classroom and teachers. We completed our activity booklets and played some fun games. We also had a hoola hoop competition with Mr Beverage. The adults had a lovely day getting to know their new class and had so much fun.

Oases Workshop
UNCRC Article 28 – Right to an education.
Today the children all took part in a workshop with Oases, to raise awareness about protecting the nature around us. We took part in a fun quiz on the ipads, to see which animals we recognised, before discussing the nature we see in our local area.
Sports Day
All of the children had a fantastic time, taking part in our annual sports day. We didn’t let the weather spoil our team spirit and the children all demonstrated brilliant determination and resilience. We are so proud of all of the children for taking part in their races and trying their best.
Forest School Session
UNCRC Article 31 – Right to take part in a range of activities.
Today class 3 took part in their first Forest School session, led by Mr Graham. We learnt about the skills we can learn during forest school sessions before creating our own Nature Art. We had lots of fun and our artwork was amazing!

D.T – Making Sock Puppets
Today we created our own sock puppets after designing them in our previous lesson. We used a range of materials to create a superhero or villain sock puppet to take home. We had lots of fun creating them and they all looked amazing!
Topic Engagement – Heroes and Villains.
Today we launched our new cornerstones topic by having a superhero and villain day! The children came dressed as their favourite superhero or villain and we completed lots of activities. We created our own superheroes, wrote descriptions and tried some tricky villain crosswords. We also introduced our new love to read text by watching the film ‘101 Dalmatians.’

Cricket Festival
This week we had lots of fun taking part in a cricket Festival with the Durham Partnership. We learnt lots of new skills such as fielding, catching, batting and bowling and took part in lots of activities.

Welcome to Summer 2!
Welcome back to our last half term of year 3! This half term we have lots of exciting things to look forward to and lots of new things to learn! Our Cornerstones topic this half term is ‘Heroes and Villains’, where we will learn all about real life and fictional heroes and why we look up to them. We will learn about historical figures such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, as well as fictional villains such as Cruella De Vil. Celebration of topic – The Durham Chocolate Company Experience!
UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in cultural activities.
The children had an absolutely fantastic time, taking part in a workshop delivered by The Durham Chocolate Company. We had the opportunity to learn about where chocolate comes from, the history of chocolate, chocolate tasting and making our own lollipops. The children shared all of their knowledge from the half term and had such an amazing afternoon.

Making Pizzas
As part of our DT work, today we made our own pizzas. We made the dough from scratch, by following instructions carefully, before kneading and rolling it into the correct shape, size and consistency. We then chose our favourite sauce and toppings and added them. We finally got to enjoy them and they were delicious!

Waste Warrior Workshop
UNCRC Article 24 – Right to healthy food.
Today we had a lovely visit from our guests from Refuse Cafe, who told us all about the importance of wasting food. We played some fun games to help us understand and watched some interesting videos. We have now been challenged with creating our own Waste Posters, to help raise awareness around school.

This week’s homework is Literacy and is we have been focusing on the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Can you write a character description of the character on your worksheet, adding interesting adjectives?
Clay Sculptures…
Today we made our very own clay sculptures of fruit and vegetables. We researched which ones we wanted to make before using clay and tools to shape them. We took our time adding detail and we will paint them next week to finish them off.
Rock Trail
To continue our work on Rocks in science, today we explored the rocks on our school grounds. We walked around the yard and field, to see which rocks we could spot. We focused on the type of rock and its use and wrote them down on our worksheets. We learnt lots, as well as having fun!

Welcome to Summer 1!
Welcome back, I hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter break. This half term our cornerstones topic is Scrumdiddlyumptious! We will be launching our topic by creating our very own smoothie recipes, using a range of tasty fruits. Reading Treat!
To celebrate class 3’s amazing effort to read at home this half term. The children decided they wanted a movie afternoon with hot dogs, popcorn and juice. Well done class 3, keep it up!
Topic celebration – Creating Volcanoes!
UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of activities.
Today we celebrated our topic ‘Tremors’, by creating our very own experiment. We discussed what we could use to create a volcanic eruption and made it happen. For our first eruption, we used coke and mentors to create a huge lava flow. We then used bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, along with some red food colouring to create a less, explosive eruption. The children had so much fun and compared it to what we have been learning about volcanic eruptions in class!
Happy Easter!
We have had lots of fun this week, taking part in the Easter Egg Competition and making our Easter cards. We each thought carefully about our egg design and our name. We then used a range of materials to create our ideas and add lots of detail. All of the eggs looked absolutely amazing! We have also made Easter cards, using different coloured buttons to create a design on the front.
Scatterball competition
Today we had lots of fun learning how to play scatterball with Caitlin. We had our own competition and counted our scores before revealing the winning team!

Comic Relief 2024
This week we have celebrated Comic Relief by taking part in Funny Football. Everyone looked amazing in their non uniform and loved working with the sports leaders to learn some new football skills.
British science week 2024
Today we had lots of fun working with the science ambassadors to learn all about British Science Week. They explained why we celebrated science and how it is used in everyday life. We then took part in an experiment, exploring how jelly sets with different fruit in it. We are recording how long it takes each pot of jelly to set and will discuss our findings. Well done to the science ambassadors who were amazing!

Mother’s Day Cards
This week we have been making mother’s day cards for someone special. We used card and paper to create paper chains and make a flower. We then wrote our personal messages inside.
Rock Art
Today we went outside to create some artwork using rocks. We had lots of fun building towers using different sized and shaped rocks. We had a little competition to see who could build the tallest tower without it falling. We discussed why some rocks were better for the bottom of our towers and why,
Topic Engagement – Adam Bushnell!
Today we absolutely loved our visit from Adam Bushnell. We introduced our new topic ‘Tremors’, by creating our very own Earthquake and Volcano monsters! We discussed lots of descriptive writing and thought about how we would describe our monsters to each other. We also watched an interesting video of a volcanic eruption to help us with our ideas! Thanks to Adam for another amazing session!

Greek Day! Topic celebration…
Today we celebrated our topic ‘Gods and Mortals’, by coming to school dressed as Gods and Goddesses. We tasted some lovely Greek foods, did some Greek Dancing and played some Greek themed games. We have loved learning all about Ancient Greece during this topic.
Visit from Kevan Jones.
Today we had a special visit from Mr Kevan Jones and Biff the dog, in response to our letters we wrote him about the issues in the local park. Kevan had written us all a response which we opened and read. We discussed the changes that had already been made to the park and how it has impacted on the local community.
Chinese New Year
This week we have celebrated Chinese New Year. We have taken part in a range of activities, such as making our own dragons, writing our names in Chinese and playing board games. We have learnt about the history of Chinese New Year and discussed how it is celebrated around the world.

Reading Treat – Chocolate Fountain
This half term class 3 have worked hard to read at home with an adult and get their planners signed. As a reward for filling our Reading Tree, and for our amazing performance at the Gala Theatre, we had the chocolate fountain!

Gala Theatre Performance!
UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of activities.
The children in class 3 have been to Durham Gala Theatre to perform a dance on stage! This half term, class 3 have worked with Gemma in our PE lessons, to learn a very special dance to ‘This is me!’. The children have worked their socks off every week to practice and perfect the dance. On Friday, the children participated in the Durham Dance Festival, ran by the sports partnership. There were lots of different schools and two audiences the children had to perform in front of. All of the staff are extremely proud of the children and they did absolutely amazingly! Thank you to the parents and carers who came to support the children.
Writing a letter to the King!
This half term in Literacy, we have been learning all about Castles. We have learnt about life in a castle and have been researching the Royal Family. We had lots of questions we wanted to know the answers to, about life in the Royal Family so we decided to write King Charles a letter. As a class, we thought of some questions to ask him, about his life and family. We signed it and sent it off in the post.
Safer Internet Coffee Morning

We have celebrated Internet Safety Week by taking part in a Safer Internet Coffee Morning with our adults. We learnt all about the importance of staying safe on the internet and completed a workshop during our safeguarding assemblies.

Future career session – Visits from the Durham Agency Against Crime and Nurse Alex
UNCRC Article 29 – Goals of education.
This week we have had a visit from people from two different career paths. We had both a visit from Youth Development Officers, who told us all about how they ended up in the job and their role in making a difference to young people. We also had the opportunity to try on some police uniform! We also had a visit from Alex who was a children’s nurse, before becoming a school nurse. We had lots of opportunities to ask questions and find out information about both careers.
Archery Session
UNCRC Article 29 – Develop our talents.
Class 3 had so much fun taking part in an Archery session with the sports partnership. We learnt how to hold the bow correctly and then how to attach the arrows. After lots of practising and perfecting our position, we had a go at shooting the arrows at the targets. The children picked it up so quickly and their listening skills were amazing as always!

New Age Kurling
Today we took part in New Age Kurling with the sports partnership. We had so much fun learning new skills and playing team games. The children loved keeping score and challenging themselves to score higher on the next turn.
Science – Making shadows
Today we had a fun and interesting science lesson, learning all about shadows. We went outside to see what our shadows looked like when we were making different positions. We then had our very own shadow puppet show and discussed how we could make different shapes on the wall.

Corey brought in something very special for us all to see. We are so proud to see yet another talent in school which Corey has been doing. Corey featured in a fishing magazine, showing a 10lb carp that he had caught.
Multi-skills event – Maiden Castle
This morning class 3 have had a fantastic morning at Maiden Castle, taking part in a multis-skills event. We took part in a street dance lesson and learnt how to do new age curling. We had lots of fun and learnt lots of new skills.

To launch our new topic, we have had a fun filled afternoon in the life of Ancient Greece. We have taken on the role of some well known Gods and Goddesses and made our very own Ancient Greek coins out of clay. We have also made our own crowns! We have already learnt some interesting facts about life in Antient Greece and can name some Gods and Goddesses. We are looking forward to learning more about this topic and finishing off our coins!

Celebration of topic – Mighty Metals!
UNCRC Article 28 – Right to an education.
Today we celebrated our current topic ‘Mighty Metals’, by making our very own jewellery. We each used metal wire and beads to make our own bracelets. We shaped the wire and then chose which colours we would like to use. We used our DT skills to bend the wire to create a hook on each side so that we could attach the wire together.
Christmas Party
Today the children had an amazing time at their Christmas party. They looked fantastic all dressed up in their party clothes and spent all afternoon dancing their socks off. We also had a very special visitor!
Christmas dinner and jumper day.
Today the children loved their Christmas dinner! The children all looked fantastic in their Christmas jumpers and have had a fun filled day!
Look who’s been…
Today class 3 had a very special visitor that had left some special letters. The children came in to snowy footprints and glitter around the classroom. Santa has left us all very special letters, replying to the ones we sent off! Our naughty elf was also making snow angels in Santa’s footprints.
Christingle Service
UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of cultural activities.
Today all of the children took part in our Christingle service at church. Each child made their own Christingle to light and took part in a range of hymns, songs and readings. Well done to all of the children, it was lovely to see their amazing Christmas spirit.
Christmas performance – Superstar!
The children all had a fantastic time taking part in this years show; Superstar! All the children have worked so hard to learn the songs and words for the show and were all absolutely amazing. We are all so proud of all of the children and their amazing talents.

To celebrate the start of December and the start of the festive activities, today we had lots of fun decorating our classroom and the whole school Christmas tree! We each put a bauble on our classroom tree and helped to put up some decorations. We then took part in our school tradition, by putting our bauble onto the tree in the hall. We also opened our first day of advent.

We are now in the process of practising our Christmas play on the stage and are working hard to prepare for our performance! Rather than being handed homework this week, we have asked the children to continue to learn their parts in the play, particularly the songs, so that they feel confident when singing and performing. If you could work with your child to practice it will help increase their confidence next week.

Children In Need
Well done to all of the children for making such a fantastic effort for Children In Need, and raising so much money and awareness for an amazing charity. The children took part in an interactive, sporty session with Joe Wicks, lead by the amazing sports leaders and then completed their own Pudsey doodles to show what Children In Need is all about. They all looked fantastic in their spotty and yellow clothes!

Topic Engagement – Trip to our local park
Today, to launch our new topic ‘Mighty Metals’, we walked round to the local park in Nettlesworth. We took time to observe the different uses of metal, and how they made the equipment used. We looked at all of the structures and discussed how metal was useful on each one. We then thought about why metal was used to build the equipment and compared it to other materials.
Poppy Art

This week for our art lesson, we have created our own poppy art. We used red card and white chalk, to create a poppy picture, using different textures. We then wrote a short poem inside, to remind us of the importance of Remembrance Day!

Reading Treat!
This week class 3 have worked so so hard, as a team, to read with an adult at home. This week we had 100% of the class read at home! This is the first time this has happened in year 3 and I am so proud of them. As a treat, we enjoyed a film and hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream! Well done class 3, keep it up!
Halloween Disco
All of the children looked fantastic at the Halloween disco and had a lovely time. They danced their socks off and were amazing as always!

Celebration of Topic – Predator!

As part of our DT lesson this week, we ,made our very own moving predators! We used paper plates and lolly sticks to create a lever, that allowed our Predators to move around their habitats. We thought carefully about the kind of Habitats they would live in, linking it to what we had learnt this half term. We also added some prey. We all had so much fun making these and they all looked fantastic!

World Mental Health Day 2023
This week class 3 helped support World Mental Health day in school. All of the children looked lovely in their yellow outfits and thank you to everyone that donated. During our PSHCE lesson, we learnt all about different coping skills and how to make ourselves feel good! The children had some lovely, mature answers.

Tri Golf Event!
Today class 3 took part in a Tri Golf event. We learnt how to chip and putt and learnt lots of new skills. Everyone tried their best and demonstrated our Sainsbury’s values as always!

In Literacy, we have been focusing on Roald Dahl and this week we have been looking at Georges Marvellous Medicine. We have written our very own Revolting Recipes and today we made some disgusting looking cakes. We thought carefully about the crazy ingredients we could add and they looked amazing when they were finished. We described them using some of the vocabularly we had seen in Roald Dahl’s books.
Making Predators!
Today we made our very own Predators, using a wide range of materials. The children came up with lots of lovely ideas and made some excellent predators for our classroom display.

Rugby Session!
Class 3 are loving their rugby sessions with Marc. We have seen so much progress in just 2 weeks and they are developing some great skills.

Our first Ukulele lesson.
UNCRC Article 31 – Right to take part in a range of activities.
Class 3 had a fantastic introduction to playing the Ukulele. We learnt how to pluck the strings and enjoyed playing along to ‘My dog has fleas’. The children all listened so well and learnt so much.
