The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III

May 4, 2023 by admin

This week in school the children have been focusing on the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, throughout the curriculum in different subjects, assemblies and after-school clubs. It has been a fantastic build up to the King’s coronation ceremony which will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023, 11am at Westminster Abbey in London. On Friday 5th May 2023 the children and staff were invited to come into school wearing red, white and blue clothing to mark this amazing event that will be wrote in the History books for many years to come.

Each child will receive a commemorative coin for King Charles III πŸ™‚

The coronation of the new Sovereign is an occasion for pageantry and celebration, but it is also a solemn religious ceremony that has remained essentially the same over a thousand years. For the last 900 years, the English coronation ceremony has usually taken place at Westminster Abbey in London. The service is conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, as it has almost always been since the Norman Conquest in 1066. For more details about the ceremony are available on the royal.uk website.

Part of the ceremony will focus onΒ St Edward’s Crown, the crown historically used at the moment of coronation and last worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her Coronation in 1953. It was made for Charles II in 1661, as a replacement for the medieval crown which had been melted down in 1649.

Please see the PowerPoint for more information: Coronation-Ceremony-Assembly

Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check Presentation Information for Parents/Carers held on 27.4.23

April 27, 2023 by admin

What is the Year 4 multiplication tables check?

TheΒ multiplication tables checkΒ is anΒ online testΒ for pupils in Year 4. Pupils are asked to answerΒ 25 questionsΒ on times tables fromΒ two to 12. They are givenΒ six seconds per question, with three seconds rest between each question, so the test should last less than five minutes. It is very similar to the set-up of Times Tables Rock stars.

Questions about theΒ six, seven, eight, nine, and 12 times tablesΒ are likely to come up most often, as these are the hardest for most children to learn. It’s a good idea to focus on these tricky times tables with your child.

First and foremost, the check is about finding out which children are struggling with their times tables so that they can get extra support. It is not a judgement on what your child can do, but a way for the school to know how their teaching is going and to adjust their focus if needed.

When is the check going to happen?

The next trial of the times tables check, open to all schools that want to take part, will take place between 5th–23rd June 2023. Β Our school participated in the trial and if your child is in Year 4, then they took the test.

By June 2020, every school will be required to take part in the check by law.

UNCRC Article 39- Recovery from Trauma and Reintegration

April 27, 2023 by admin

Article of the Week
Article 39
Hello,

Article 39 – Recovery from Trauma and Reintegration – has not been covered so far in this series. Conversations about the support needed to recover from the trauma of neglect, abuse, exploitation or torture have to be covered with the utmost sensitivity in class.

Despite being a difficult article to cover, we would urge you to incorporate the activities in this pack, where you can and in a way that is appropriate to the context of your learners. As duty bearers, adults have an obligation to let children and young people know about the Convention (Article 42) and that includes the harder, more emotionally difficult articles.

We strongly recommend covering these activities in class under the supervision of a teacher and not setting this pack, or activities in this pack, as homework. We would also recommend considering the situations your learners may bring with them into this discussion and have support and safeguarding in place.
