Bastille Day
UNCRC Article 31 – Right to take part in a range of cultural activities.
Today we celebrated Bastille Day in school. We all came dressed in red, white and blue and learnt about why Bastile Day is important. We celebrated in class by creating our own flags, using watercolours and had some lovely croissants.
TT Rockstar Day
UNCRC Article 31 – Right to take part in a range of activities.
Today we had a brilliant day celebrating TT Rockstars Day. Class 3 took part in lots of activities and had a fun filled day. We had our own disco, some children went on the Boom Bus and we practised our times tables, using the ipads and laptops. Class 3 all looked amazing in their rockstar outfits.
Pirate Artwork
Today for our art lesson, we created our own pirate flags. We used black card and white paint to paint a skull and cross bones. We added detail to make them look as realistic as we could.
Rugby Session
Today we had an excellent session with Marc, practising our rugby skills. We learnt how to pass accurately and played some fun games.
Commando Joes
Today we had a fun afternoon, completing a Commando Joes mission. We had the challenge of finding our apponents treasure, by crossing the river and completing the course they had set up. We kept trying to challenge our other teams by hiding the treasure and adding more equipment. The year 5 and 6 leaders demonstratead fantastic skills and helped us make our obstacles tricky.

Tennis Day!
UNCRC Article 31 – Right to take part in a range of activities.
To celebrate the launch of Wimbleton, today we had a tennis day in school. Class 3 worked with the sports leaders to practise their tennis skills and learn some new ones. It was so much fun and the children were very engaged. They took part in a range of activities that allowed them to demonstrate lots of different skills.
Forest School Session
UNCRC Article 31 – Right to take part in a range of activities.
Today class 3 thoroughly enjoyed their forest school session with Mrs Morton. They toasted marshmallow’s and made their own mobiles using sticks, string and leaves. This was a lovely opportunity for the children and they had fun whilst learning new skills.

Reading Treat
UNCRC Article 28 – Right to an education.
This week class 3 have worked so hard as a team to read at home with an adult. This week our percentage of readers was a huge 95%!!! I am so proud of them all for working together and achieving this! We celebrated with some well deserved ice creams and we hope to keep this up for the rest of the term. Well done class 3, keep up the good work!
Hamsterley Forest Trip
Today we visited Hamsterley Forest. We took part in lots of orienteering activities and prarEActised using a map and a compass. We played games to help us remember our compass directions and followed a route around the forest. We had lots of fun, as well as practising our map skills.
Come Dance With Me session
UNCRC Article 31 – take part in a range of activities.
This morning class 3 took part in a fun filled morning of dance with Gemma. We had the opportunity to learn 4 different dance styles. We learnt short Bollywood, Street Dance, Cheerleading and Samba routines. We had an amazing morning and we all loved trying out new styles of dance. I was so proud of all of the children for giving it a go and their dancing was amazing. We also performed our Samba dance to class 2, as they have been learning all about Brazil in class.

Jake took part in his first ever football tournament at the weekend and played amazing, helping his team win! He showed fantastic enthusiasm and we are so proud.

Trip to the Buddhist Centre
UNCRC Article 28 – Right to an education.
As part of our current RE topic, today we visited Newcastle Buddhist Centre, to consolidate our learning so far. We were given the opportunity to learn more about the Buddhist faith and even tried some meditation in a Shrine Room. This was a fantastic experience and all of the children had some fantastic questions!
Topic Engagement – Adam Bushnell
UNCRC Article 31 – Take part in a range of activities.
Today we had a visit from the fantastic Adam Bushnell, to launch our topic ‘Land Ahoy!’. We had the opportunity to create our very own pirate flag, treasure map and imagine what it would be like to be a pirate. We used some fantastic adjectives to describe our drawings and had the
chance to look at some excellent pirate artefacts. This linked well to our pirate topic and allowed us to gain some brilliant ideas for our stories we will be writing in Literacy!

Welcome back to summer 2!
Welcome back to summer 2. I hope you have had a lovely half term break and are ready for the final half term. This half term our cornerstones topic is Land Ahoy! We will be navigating, investigating and exploring the world, just like Captain Cook. We will have the chance to speak like pirates, write like a poet, and learn lots about life at sea. Happy Half Term
As a reward for all of the children’s hard work this half term, today we enjoyed ice lollies in the sun. The children are continuing to work hard with their work in both school and home and deserved a special treat.

Celebration of Topic – Wriggle and Crawl
UNCRC Article 31 – Right to relax and play and take part in a range of activities.
Today class 2 and 3 had a fantastic time celebrating our current topic. We had a very special visit from Crazy Creatures. All of the children had the opportunity to hold lots of different animals and insects and were so brave! The children were so engaged and were amazing with all of the animals.
Litter Picking
Today class 3 worked with John from Durham County Council, picking up all of the litter on our school field. We learnt all about the importance of picking up litter and what can happen if you drop it on the street. Class 3 worked so hard as a team to collect it all up and put it in the bags.
Fielding and Striking Festival!

Today we had a fantastic afternoon taking part in a striking and fielding festival at New College Durham. We took part in lots of activities that helped with our catching, throwing and fielding skills.
The children were amazing as always and had lots of fun.

Geography Fieldwork

To consolidate our knowledge of sketch maps, from this half term, today we carried out a fieldwork task. We used a map we had created, to show our group different points on the yard. We had to look closely at the map and follow the route shown, to guide us to the clues.

Coronation Celebrations!
This week class 3 have been learning lots about the Kings Coronation. Today we had our own celebrations in class, and decorated our very own royal biscuits. Everyone looked fantastic in their red, white and blue clothing and loved our Royal Party.

Topic Engagement- Mini-beast Hunt
UNCRC Article 31- Relax and play.
Class 3 have had a fantastic afternoon at the forest, finding different mini beasts. We searched for as many as we could and looked at different habitats. We found a huge range of mini-beasts and collected them in our magnifying pots. We then wrote down which ones we had identified and where we had found them.

Welcome back to summer 1. I hope you have all had a lovely Easter break. This half term our Cornerstones topic is ‘Wriggle and Crawl’ and we will be learning about different mini beasts and their habitats and visiting our offsite Forest School area for a mini beast hunt! I have attached the welcome letter which gives you more information about this topic and includes some important diary dates.
Celebration of Topic – Walk around the village.
This afternoon we went for a walk around our local village to celebrate our topic ‘Street Detectives’. Mrs Cooke and Mrs Mordue taught us lots about how the village has changed and the history of Nettlesworth. We also used our geography skills that we have practised over the half term to follow directions. We recognised lots of places we had seen on maps.
Easter Fun

This week class 3 have had lots of fun taking part in lots of Easter activities. We have made eggs for the competition which looked fantastic, cards for our families and Easter baskets.

Red Nose Day!
Today we celebrated Red Nose Day. To raise money, we all came to school in our sports clothes and wearing red. We also took part in a skip into spring activity where we had to find lots of red noses whilst skipping. We all had lots of fun and all received a prize for collecting all of the red noses.
Thank you to the sports leaders for doing such an excellent job at organising the games and helping us!
Invasion Games Festival
This week we attended an invasion games festival. We had the opportunity to play lots of different invasion games against children from other schools. We learnt some new skills and had lots and lots of fun! As always the children were amazing and showed great perseverance!

To launch our new topic ‘Street Detectives’, today we went to Beamish to learn all about how towns and streets have changed over time. We visited the Town and the Pit Village before our activity ‘Home Sweet Home’, where we learnt all about what homes used to be like and the kind of jobs the children would do after school. We had to tidy the house and empty the dirty toilet. We had a fantastic day!

Fairtrade Fortnight
UNCRC Article 32 – protected from work that could harm a child’s health or education.
To help us learn all about fair trade and how it is important, we made our very own fair trade brownies. We discussed the importance of fair trade and how we can help the farmers receive a fair price for their products. We spotted the fair trade sign and thought about some other products we might have seen it on. We had lots of fun making our brownies and enjoyed eating them!
Inter-house Competition – Invasion Games

Today we took part in one of our Inter House Competitions, playing lots of fun invasion games. We worked as teams to get past the defenders and earn as many points as possible! As always we showed our perseverance and resilience and had lots of fun.
World Book Day!

The children have had a fantastic day for World Book Day, celebrating their love for reading. All of the children looked fantastic and shared their favourite book with the class. We took part in lots of fun, reading activities and wrote our very own book reviews.
We Eat Elephants last session
Today we finished our last session of WEElephants with Eve. We have learnt all about our feelings and feel confident talking about these to the adults and our friends. Today we wrote our very own unhelpful and helpful cycles which helped us turn our negative feelings and thoughts into positive ones.

Welcome to Spring 2!
This half term, our topic is Street Detectives. We will be learning all about our local community, looking at houses old and new and how things have changed over time. This topic closely links to our geography work and we will be using our mapping skills to find out what is around us. We will also be taking part in our memorable experience – a trip to Beamish Museum on Thursday 9th March 2023, to see how streets have changed over time.

UNCRC Article 28 – Right to an education.
This half term class 3 have been learning all about things that bounce and different sports. The children have been working super hard with Gemma, over the last few weeks, to learn a new dance that links so well to our topic. Today we showed our dance to the rest of the school, as a way of celebrating everything we had learnt over the half term. The children were so impressed with the dance and how the children worked together to keep in time with the music! Everyone performed amazingly and Gemma and I were so proud of you all.

Today Alex shared a brilliant achievement with the school, during our assembly. Alex works super hard at home to look after and train his pigeons. He is full of facts about them and loves talking about how he looks after and races them. Alex has won a very special trophy, after winning a pigeon race.
It’s lovely to see our children taking part in such a wide range of activities and sharing their achievements!

Today we had a lovely day celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week. You all looked fantastic in your clothes that made you happy and it was lovely to see everyone making such a fabulous effort. We each received a kindness slip from one of our friends in school which was lovely.
Women in Science Day

Today we celebrated Women in Science day by researching Marie Curie. We looked at her amazing achievements and how she has made such a huge difference. We each made a PowerPoint to show what we had learnt.
Mental Health Week
UNCRC Article 12 – Every child has the right to have a say in all matters affecting them.
This week we continued our sessions with WE Elephants, and focused on Mental Health Week. We learnt all about our thoughts, feelings, body feelings and behaviours and how we can manage them. We had some fantastic ideas about the kinds of thoughts and feelings we often have and what might change these. We discussed the importance of talking about our feelings and that sometimes you can’t always tell how someone is feeling from the outside.

At the weekend, Karen took part in a Chorister Experience Day at Durham Cathedral. She had the chance to participate in a range of activities which culminated in singing Evensong with the Cathedral Choir. Karen showed us her certificate and the service book which was amazing to see. You should be so proud of yourself Karen!

This week we have filled our reading flowers once again. Class 3 have worked super hard to read at home and get their planners signed. We have had the majority of the class reading their books at home over the past few weeks which is fantastic. Class 3 were delighted to have their treat this afternoon and enjoyed a lovely cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows and a cookie. Keep it up!!!

Today we had a look to see if our plants had began to grow. We noticed a change and picked out the parts of the plant we could see so far. We discussed how we had looked after them and how we can ensure they continue to grow.

Football taster session.
UNCRC Article 31 – take part in a range of activities.
Today we had lots of fun taking part in a football taster session. The coaches were very helpful and showed us lots of new skills. We played some fun games and learnt how to control the ball properly. The children were given a letter with information about other coaching sessions, outside of school, and holiday activities.
Finishing our 3D models

In DT this week, we finished building our 3D models we have been working on and we were so pleased with the results. We thought about how we could shape the wire to create our designs and evaluated them once we had finished. We had lots of fun making them.
Commando Joes geography lesson.
UNCRC Article 28 – Right to an education.
To link to our geography topic ‘maps/OAA’, today we used the Commando Joes equipment to guide our friends around an obstacle course. Our task was to create a map of the obstacle course, for our friends to follow. We then had to use the maps and directional language, to guide our friends around without touching the obstacles. As a challenge, we then had to do this blindfolded which was a little bit more tricky.

This week we investigated different plants around look the school grounds and discussed how they were similar and different. We talked about how they might be different in the summer, compared to the winter and what helps them grow.

Our DT project.
UNCRC Article 31 – take part in a range of cultural activities.
In art and DT, we have been looking at art installation and discussing how we can create our very own models. For our first lesson, we thought carefully about what we might use and how we could build it. We carefully designed our 3D models and drew them. This week, we began creating our models by painting our polystyrene balls and creating different patterns and effects, ready to build and complete our models next week.

This week we began our investigation of observing how seeds grow into mature plants. We recapped the work we had done on the stages of plant growth and followed the steps carefully, to plant our own seeds. We discussed how we can make sure they grow and what they will need. We are going to observe our plants closely to see how well they grow.

Professor Brainstorm
UNCRC Article 31 – take part in a range of cultural activities.
We had a fantastic visit from Professor Brainstorm this morning, who taught us all about different forces. We took part in lots of different experiments and demonstrated ourselves. It was lots of fun and we learnt lots of new things. To launch our new topic, we learnt about how we can use forces to make objects bounce, roll and jump.

This week’s homework is Literacy and is looking at description. Our new topic is Zoo and this week in class we are focusing on what zoo’s look like and how the animals might feel. Ball Art
UNCRC Article 29 – education must develop a child’s personality and talents.
Today we introduced our new topic ‘bounce’ and had lots of fun in our art lesson, creating ball art. We used bouncy balls and paint to create different patterns on our page. We tried out different techniques, such as rolling and bouncing and got lots of different pictures.
Welcome to Spring 1!
I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas break and are ready for the next half term!
This half term our topic is Bounce. We will be looking at which balls bounce and investigating which ones bounce the highest. We will be given the challenge of planning our own sports days for our friends and making our own rules. Our topic engagement this half term will be a visit from Professor Brainstorm, on Monday 9th January. I have attached the welcome letter, with more information about the half term.

This week we have had so much fun. We have made chocolate reindeer’s and eaten them up and watched a fantastic pantomime with Dip and Dab.

Celebration of our topic!
To celebrate our topic, ‘Towers, Tunnels and Turrets’, we made our very own castles. We used cardboard boxes to build the castles and added drawbridges, mottes and lots more. We made our very own knights, Kings and Queens to go in our castles.
Christmas Crafts!
This week we have had lots of fun making lots of Christmas crafts to take home to our friends and family. We have used lots of our art skills to make cards, calendars and decorations. We are super excited to show our families what we have made.
Christmas Party
Class 3 had a lovely afternoon at our Christmas Party. Everyone looked fab in their party clothes and enjoyed dancing and singing. We had a very special visit from Buddy the naughty elf and had the chance to dance with him and receive a lovely gift.

The children all looked fantastic today in their Christmas jumpers! We had lovely Christmas dinner in the hall and enjoyed pulling our Christmas crackers with our friends.

Christmas Cards of Hope for Care Homes
This week class 3 enjoyed making Christmas cards for care homes in the local area. Each child made a card which will give make someone in a care home smile.

Decorating the tree

We had a lovely assembly this morning, decorating and switching on the lights of our whole school Christmas tree. We all had the opportunity to put a decoration on and then watched Lily and Mrs Lee turn the lights on. Mrs Lee then read us a lovely Christmas story.

Today the children had lots of fun decorating our classroom. We put baubles on our tree and made Christmas paper chains. We had lots of fun playing in Santa’s Grotto and choosing our first day of advent!

Class 3 have had a fantastic day, raising money for Children In Need. Every child made such an amazing effort and looked brilliant. We had a fun filled afternoon playing games, decorating biscuits and designing our own Pudsey!
UK Parliament Week 2022
UNCRC Article 12 – Every child has the right to have a say.
For this year’s UK Parliament Week, class 3 looked at the Houses of Parliament. We looked at and discussed what happens in the Houses of Parliament and the Elizabeth Tower. For our DT lesson, we made our very own Elizabeth Towers with Big Ben, using different materials and skills. We shared our models during the coffee morning. It was lovely to see so many parents and the children had lots of fun participating in the activities.
Anti-bullying week.

This week Class 3 had a look at Anti-Bullying. We talked about what it means and why it is important. We completed lots of different activities, all linked to anti-bullying to help us remember.

For our geography this week, we chose one of our World Cup countries to learn about. We used a range of sources such as information sheets, iPads and maps to find out lots of interesting facts about France.

Remembrance Day!
UNCRC Article 38 – Children should not be in war zones.
Class 3 had lots of fun creating their water colour poppy paintings. We discussed each part of the poppy and why it is meaningful and talked about why it is important to wear them. We reflected on the importance of Remembrance Day and thought about the soldiers who fought for our country. We enjoyed participating in the whole school remembrance service putting our change on the poppy.

Today the children participated in an exciting, Halloween themed multi-skills event at New Collage Durham. The children had the opportunity to take parts in lots of fun activities and learnt some new skills. The children were amazing as always and looked brilliant in their costumes.

Halloween Disco

Our Topic Celebration!
To end our topic ‘Beat, Band, Boogie’, the children created their very own marching band. They worked hard making their own ‘soldiers’ hats and their very own drums. We had so much fun performing this.

To Rockstar Day
We have had a fantastic day today for TT Rockstars day. All of the children looked amazing and had so much fun!
‘That History Bloke’ visit
Class 3 have really enjoyed their visit from Richard to
day. We learnt lots of new facts, all about the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle and joined in with lots of fun activities. We enjoyed seeing all of the interfaces and learning about jobs from Victorian times.

Multi-skills at Maiden Castle

We had a super fun DT lesson today, making our very own lighthouses to link to our topic. The children chose the most suitable materials for their models and created a circuit to light them up.
Golf Festival
Class 3 had a fantastic time taking part in the golf festival, organised by the brilliant sports leaders and Mr Beverage. They had lots of challenges and I was amazed by their skills. We had lots of fun!

Class 3 had a fantastic time at the forest and learnt lots of new skills. We practiced moving in different directions, played map bingo, looked at lots of map symbols and completed a fun orienteering task to test out our map skills. It was a lovely day in the sun!

Geography Fieldwork – Treasure hunt…
Class 3 had a fun geography lesson this week, for National Fieldwork Week. We created our very own treasure maps, adding all of the features we have been covering across the year and a route for our partners to follow. We then went outside and challenged our friends to find our hidden treasure, marked on our maps. We all managed to find each others treasure and were able to accurately use the maps and follow the routes.
Land Ahoy Engagement!
Today we had a fantastic engagement, to launch our new topic ‘Land Ahoy!’. We had a visit from Paul who is a brilliant poet. We really enjoyed his assembly and found his poems hilarious. We then had a fantastic session with him as a class, creating our very own pirate poem. He taught us how to write poems, but also how we could add different rhymes and rhythms. Bella played us a little tune on the ukulele to go with our poem. We felt very lucky to have such a brilliant experience for our engagement.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
Class 3 had such a fantastic time, creating their crowns and celebrating such a special occasion with their parents and carers. Geography Fieldwork
This half term, in geography, we have been looking at sketch maps. For our last lesson of the half term, we used our map skills to find objects on the yard. We had to follow a route, drawn on our sketch map, that lead us to different objects around the playground. We all managed to find the correct object, and had lots of fun at the same time!

Cornerstones Celebration – Wriggle and Crawl.
In our art lesson, we celebrated our current topic ‘wriggle and crawl’. We used the clay to create our favourite minibeasts and added some details using the tools. Once they are dry, we are going to paint our minibeasts to complete our little project. We loved experimenting and using different techniques with the clay.

Easter Fun!
We had so much fun designing, decorating and showing off our fantastic eggs for the Easter Egg Competition. We also loved making cards for our families and friends and had an exciting delivery from the Easter Bunny on Friday. We also had a lovely treat on the last day, to celebrate our full reading tree and the effort we have made, as a class, to read at home this half term.

Today we had an amazing cricket taster session from All Stars Cricket. The children absolutely loved it and the staff were amazed by some of the talent. They had the opportunity to try out some new skills, whilst having lots of fun.

Today we were raising money and awareness for Brain Tumour Awareness week. During the week, we baked some cakes for our bake off. We decided to bake Ukraine themed cakes, to link to the work we have been doing in UNCRC lessons. The children were very proud of their cakes and they showed off their measuring skills whilst making the mixture.

Fairtrade Fortnight…
We have been celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight in school. In our UNCRC lesson, we talked about Fairtrade and we shared ideas about where different foods came from. We looked at how chocolate was made and transported to our shops and completed different activities.

Maths Day!
Miss Milburn and Mr Beveridge taught Class 3, who had so much with an active maths session! The children added their scores playing skittles, knocking down dominoes, bean bag hoop throwing and a hoop throwing number game! Everyone enjoyed adding up their scores to see who the winners were! Well done Class 3!

What a fabulous afternoon Class 3 have had when Mr Graham came to teach and we looked at healthy eating. The children categorised a large variety of food into their food groups, looked at the food they had just eaten for dinner and asked the question…is it possible to eat healthy ‘sweet’ food?
The children worked incredibly hard and helped to make Sugar Seed balls using natural ingredients.

We have had a fantastic morning, celebrating World Book Day and the children made a brilliant effort with their costumes. We talked about our favourite books, had some lovely stories read by class 5 and had a visit from real life Spider-Man!

Class 3 have had a fantastic afternoon, celebrating our new topic ‘Street Detectives’. We explored some of Nettlesworth and had Mrs Cooke and Mrs Mordue telling us all about the history of our local area. It was so much fun and we learnt lots of interesting facts along the way. We had a lovely visitor for our French lesson this week. Papi was kind enough to come in and teach us all of the French colours. She was so impressed with how class 3 listened and learned the colours. It was an amazing experience for class 3!

Adam Bushnell visit
Today we had a real life author visit us in class 3 …… Adam Bushnell. He introduced our new topic, Bounce, by taking us into a rainforest with bouncy animals! He also brought along his pet, Jet, but he didn’t bounce!

Christmas week!!
This week we have had so much fun doing lots of Christmas crafts, having our lovely Christmas dinner and taking part in our Christingle Service. We are all ready for the Christmas holidays.
Christmas Fun!
We had lots of fun today doing some Christmas activities and buying and winning lots of lovely prizes at the Christmas fayre!
Homework 6.12.21
This week homework is to carry on learning our lines for the performance, ready to perform it! We are doing lots of practicing so it is important that all of the children feel confident with their lines and songs.

Decorating our classroom!
We have had lots of fun in class 3, creating lots of decorations for our classroom. We made some lovely snowflakes for our Christmas display, created our own nativity and added our pictures and decorated our brand new Christmas tree with lots of baubles and lights!!

Please note there are no new spellings this week due to not being at school to do the test on Friday. We will be testing last week’s spellings this Friday so I have given them back for extra practice.

Trip to the Castle!
Class 3 have had a fantastic day at Castle Keep as part of our cornerstones topic. We had an amazing tour around the castle, learned lots of new facts about castle life and had our very own castle feast!!

I hope you are excited for an exciting half term, learning all about our new topic… Towers, Tunnels and Turrets. We will be doing lots of lovely activities relating to our topic in class alongside a trip to a local castle in a few weeks! Keep an eye out for a letter with more information. We are launching our topic with our very own Medieval Castle Day! We will be building castles, having a medieval banquet and lots more! Letters will be sent out with more information.

Class 3 have had a lovely last day doing lots of Halloween activities. We have made lots of things, decorated biscuits and a fun Halloween cosmic yoga!

UNCRC Article 31: Every child has a right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of artistic activities.
We had lots of fun today celebrating our Cornerstones topic ‘Beat Band Boogie’, by creating our very own music! The children played like professionals!
Harvest Festival

Class 3 have had lots of fun today in their science lesson finding plants and discovering their habitats. They were investigating the different types of plants on the field and worked super hard!

Harry completed the Muddy Kids Race for Life this weekend and managed to raise lots of money for charity. Such a huge achievement Harry Well Done!
Alana also got student of the month at her taekwondo class. Amazing Alana well done!
Class 3 had a fantastic day for World Smile Day! We had some amazing outfits that made us happy and had lots of fun doing some lovely activities, that all made us smile. We also had our random act of kindness from Class 5 which meant extra playtime with the equipment!
This week’s homework focus is Literacy. We have been continuing to look at our topic of ‘food’ and have spent this week looking at recipes. The focus of the homework is all about food packaging. Can you read the instructions on your sheet and complete the activity.

Memorable experience
On Friday we had a lovely day with illustrator, Liz Million. She launched our topic ‘Beat, Band, Boogie’, and helped us draw some amazing pictures of animals playing lots of different instruments. She also talked about some of the books she has illustrated and described the types of drawings she uses. The children had an amazing day and created some brilliant art work.
